Can You Still Get CDCP Coverage If You Have Dental Insurance?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is helping more people across Canada get the dental care they need. But if you already have some kind of dental coverage, you might be wondering:
“Can I still qualify?”
The short answer: maybe!
It depends on the kind of coverage you have right now.
At Rosedale Dental in Thornhill, we want to help you understand your options—because you may still qualify, even if you think you don’t.
Do You Qualify for the CDCP?
- You don’t have access to private dental insurance
- You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes
- Your adjusted family net income is under $90,000
- You meet the age group currently being rolled out (2023–2025)
What Type of Coverage Do You Have?
🟢 Public or Government Dental Plans
Good news — you might still qualify.
The CDCP can work with government programs to help cover treatments that aren’t already included.
🔴 Private or Employer Dental Insurance
You likely won’t qualify.
The CDCP is designed for people who don’t have private dental coverage.
When You Might Still Be Eligible
- You’re on a government plan: CDCP can help with services that aren’t covered.
- You lost your private insurance: If your dental plan through work or a private provider has ended, you may now be eligible. What matters is your current coverage status.
What Should You Do?
- Don’t assume you’re not eligible just because you had insurance in the past
- Check what type of coverage you currently have—public or private
- If your private plan recently ended, it’s worth looking into CDCP
What Does the CDCP Cover?
The CDCP helps cover many routine and important dental services, such as:
- Checkups and cleanings
- Fillings and root canals
- Dentures, crowns, and more (some treatments may need pre-approval or a co-pay)
